Back-to-back wins for Academy Blues

Long Eaton United Community FC Academy recorded back-to-back wins in the National League U19 Alliance Division F with a 3-0 win against Alfreton Town Development.

Sachin Matharu celebrates after scoring the second goal of the match.

It is the first time the U19s have recorded consecutive league victories this season and the third clean sheet in all competitions.

Andrew Tsolakis almost gave the Blues an early opener with a powerful strike from range which rattled the crossbar.

After an end-to-end opening 20 minutes Riley Philips cut in from the right wing and curled the ball past Alfreton’s goalkeeper with a well-placed shot to give Long Eaton the lead.

Sachin Matharu doubled the lead in the 33rd minute with a thumping header at the far post following Ben Bowers corner.

Matharu almost scored a second moments later with another header at the back post from Tsolakis’ searching free kick, although this time the goalkeeper got down to the shot and made the save.

With three minutes left to play in the opening half, Phillips made it three. The winger dribbled goalward and slotted the ball past the ‘keeper to further extend the advantage as the Blues head into the break.

Shortly after the restart Ryan Bache troubled the visitors’ defence and forced a saved from the ‘keeper with a shot from close-range.

Second-half substitutes Alans Voskresenskis and Hugo Broughton combined down the left wing in a swift counterattack, but the former struck the woodwork with his effort from a tight angle.

With 30 minutes left to play a reshuffle in midfield the Blues held on to the three-goal lead and saw out a goalless second half.
