BLUES STRIKE FOUR PAST NEWCOMERS HOLBEACH UNITED

Long Eaton United Academy advanced in the FA Youth Cup with a comfortable 4-1 victory over newcomers Holbeach United Academy at Grange Park.

Ben Bowers netted the only goal of the first half through a venomous penalty, but Otto Wood's penalty brought the game level shortly after the restart.

Although, second-half goals from Hugo Henderson, Alans Voskresenskis and Hugo Broughton put the game to bed for the Blues.

Curtis Burrows named a versatile and solid 18-man squad heading into the match as the Academy Manager looked to start with a bang and build some momentum.

The Academy Blues began with intent and it took only five minutes to register the first goal. Bowers - as dangerous as ever - was brought down inside the box and subsequently stepped up to take the penalty before arrowing his shot into the top left corner.

Holbeach then seemed to drop back and looked to deny Long Eaton any definitive chance on goal, but one did come in the 18th minute through Alans Voskresenskis as he drove into the box and looked to fire on goal, although he was denied by Charlie Bell.

Ten minutes later, Hugo Broughton was gifted a chance on goal, this time Matthew Gale's corner was flicked at the front post towards the edge of the box for the winger to volley, however, once again Bell dived to stop the shot.

Alex Lykill seemed to be the visitors' biggest dangerman as he drove towards goal in the 34th minute, but Adam Aicha pulled off a superb last-ditch tackle to deny the chance.

Burrows' side went in at the break with the advantage and that proved good stead for the start of the second half.

Voskresenskis - displaying delightful footwork - glided into the Holbeach 18-yard box and looked to trouble the visitors' keeper, but Bell reacted fantastically to deny the forward.

However, it was Holbeach who struck first. Another penalty, but this time Otto Wood struck confidently for the visitors into the bottom right.

Henderson made sure Holbeach's lead did not last long, as Broughton's cross-shot was initially saved but the midfielder was on hand to head home the rebound from close.

Two then became three in the 64th minute - Voskresenskis timed a forward run to perfection in order to latch onto a teasing through ball, and that allowed the striker to drill a shot underneath the diving Bell and into the back of the net.

The Blues turned ruthless in the second half and netted their fourth only nine minutes later. Broughton gathered the ball inside the visitors' box and was allowed to work the ball onto his stronger left foot before thumping a strike past the keeper.

A heavily contested final 15 minutes was to come for both sides, but the Blues' consistent press and the Pack's quick counterattacks came to a stale end through defensive excellence, thus the game finished four-goals-to-one in favour of Long Eaton United.
